As a typical positive displacement fan, the Roots blower is widely used in industrial fields due to its compact structure and non-internal compression characteristics. However, high energy consumption and startup shocks under traditional operating conditions have long plagued users. Recently, V&T successfully implemented a V9 series variable frequency drive (VFD) retrofit solution for an enterprise in Anshan, delivering a "standard answer" across three dimensions: energy efficiency, equipment lifespan, and intelligent operation and maintenance (O&M). Background: Addressing Traditional Pain Points Roots blowers rely on two three-lobe impellers rotating synchronously in opposite directions to transport gas. The air volume is directly proportional to the speed, and there is no internal compression process. In actual production, most enterprises still use damper regulation or start/stop control to match air demand. This results in significant energy waste. Furthermore, the high current impact generated by direct motor starting accelerates mechanical wear, shortening the lifespan of key components like bearings and oil seals, thereby driving up maintenance costs. The enterprise in Anshan had long struggled with these issues and decided to seek a VFD retrofit solution. After comparing multiple options, the V&T V9 series was selected as the final choice due to its dedicated algorithms for positive displacement loads and reliable quality. Utilizing the characteristic that "air volume is proportional to speed," it dynamically adjusts the speed based on actual air consumption to achieve precise, on-demand supply. This completely replaces the traditional, inefficient damper regulation method, eliminating throttling losses. After the retrofit, the enterprise saw a reduction in fan power consumption of over 20%, with a significant improvement in overall system energy efficiency. 2.
